Mountainside Middle School and Desert Mountain High School, both within the Scottsdale Unified School District, will share the world’s largest solar-powered air-conditioning unit starting this fall, officials said.
Imagine 500 feet of solar panels! In the fall, this huge array of solar panels will provide the energy for a 500 ton air conditioning unit for a couple of Scottsdale, Arizona schools.
Arizona Public Service Co. is providing a $6.2 million incentive for the project and SOLID, a company that will designs and installs commercial solar powered thermal units will do so for the schools, the Republic said.
The schools will only pay for the water that runs through this chiller. Imagine the savings in the long run. The schools even get a rebate on the water.
Could it be that some in Arizona are working together to create energy, save money, and maybe the planet?
